Hornbill is an endangered large forest bird known for its enormous orange-red beak and casque and dark blue feathers. Residing mainly in Borneo island, it also becomes the official emblem of West Kalimantan, a province in the land of Kalimantan, Indonesia. In the tribe of Dayak - primitive tribe of Borneo Island, hornbill is regarded with symbolic importance and considered the most sacred birds among other species of bird where it is thought to carry the body's spirit to the spirit world in the sky and as a representation of the upper-world god. The Dayaks and other Borneo indigenous tribe used to carve Hornbill's beak for personal adornment as earrings, worn by men. The wearing of hornbill carved beak during ceremonies symbols the high status, power and prestige of the wearer. The carving of Hornbill's beak is a delicate material and only a few people are able to carve the fine designs.
