Paintings, traditional ikat, museums, and beautiful pasar makes Klungkung a quainty old town. Located between Gianyar and Karangasem, Klungkung connects the agricultural land of Bangli and Karangasem to the busy town of Gianyar with its bustling touristy town, Ubud. We wanted to go for a trip that will be memorable for our team, so it should be something that engages in culture and history, but is also fun and easy to walk through.

Klungkung is known for its Kamasan painting, originating from a village there called Kamasan. We traveled to Semarapura, the capital of Klungkung, located just 20 minutes away from the village. The downtown of Semarapura, though small, is packed with a museum, the central market for Endek ikat,
and a vibrant culinary scene known for its spicy heat.

We visited Kertha Gosa, a historic palace complex, with a floating temple and a court with ceilings decorated in Kamasan painting. There in Kertha Gosa, we were delighted to see that Semarapura was apparently the sister city of Florence, Italy, as both cities were recognized for their shared dedication to
the preservation of art and culture. From Kertha Gosa, we walked around Pasar Endek and got ourselves,
not just one, but two rounds of lunch!

As we walked around the downtown of Semarapura, we found ourselves in awe with the vibrant diversity of the cuisine. From Balinese food, halal food from third generations of Javanese or Arab Balinese,
to Chinese food, Semarapura has it all!

At the end of our trip, we stopped by the beach for a little stretch after a good walk.
From Klungkung, we drove back to our home coast in Gianyar. See you in the next Pithe Dolan!
