Coming from Timor, this sarong is called Tais - meaning woman’s skirt, usually worn in dance performance or ceremony.
In Timor island, horse is a prominent feature of Timorese life. However, this design is not still considered as Fasi (or foreign art) as it is not alluded in the earliest ancestral legends. Nevertheless, horse has been an important part of textile iconography of Timor in the last century. Be it a man standing on a horseback or rows of horses.
This Tais is made native of Embroi ethnic group in Timor.
